✨ Skill Level

Beginner–friendly (simple stitches, minimal shaping)

🧶 Materials

(Using super bulky / chenille velvet yarn as shown)

  • Super bulky chenille yarn – approx. 70–80 g for headband
  • Extra for bow – approx. 40 g
  • Crochet hook: 6.5 mm (K)
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Optional: stitch markers

🔤 Abbreviations (US Terms)

sc – single crochet
ch – chain
sl st – slip stitch
BLO – back loop only
FO – fasten off

🎀 Headband (Ribbed Stretchy Band)

This headband is worked sideways, then sewn into a loop. The ribbing is created by working in BLO, perfectly matching the horizontal ridges in the photo.

Sizing Guide

  • Adult: 52 rows
  • Child: 44–48 rows

Headband Pattern

With yarn and 6.5 mm hook:

Adult Size

  1. Ch 12
  2. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across (11 sc).
  3. Row 2–52: ch 1, turn, sc in BLO across (11).

FO, leaving a long tail.

Assembly
Fold band in half, whipstitch the short ends together to form a loop.
Turn seam to the inside.

🎀 Oversized 3D Bow (Removable)

The bow in the photo has thick, dimensional loops—not flat ovals. Each side is a folded rectangular piece with natural curvature and volume.

Bow Loops (Make 2)

These create the large sculpted loops.

  1. Ch 40
  2. Rows 1–8: sc across (39 sc).
  3. FO, leaving a long tail for assembling.

Repeat to make two identical rectangles.

Shaping the Bow Loops

  1. Fold each strip so short edges meet, forming a loop.
  2. Whipstitch edges together (this seam becomes the inner back of the bow).
  3. Flatten slightly, allowing natural folding to occur.
  4. Do not completely flatten—keep soft curvature for fullness.

🎀 Center Wrap (Thick Middle Knot)

The center knot in the photo is wide and chunky, so it must be thick enough to hold the bow securely.

Center Knot Strap

  1. Ch 18
  2. Rows 1–6: sc across (17 sc).
  3. FO, leaving long tail.

This wide strap will wrap around both loops and the headband.

🎀 Bow Assembly

  1. Stack the two loops horizontally, one on top of the other.
  2. Pinch both centers together (like a butterfly shape).
  3. Use long tail from one loop to tightly gather the center 6–8 times.
  4. Place second loop on top and gather again through all layers.
  5. Wrap the wide center strap tightly around the middle 3–4 times.
  6. Sew the strap ends together securely.
  7. Adjust folds so the bow looks full, rounded, and even.

💡 Optional: Add a tiny amount of stuffing inside each loop before wrapping for extra volume.

🎀 Attaching the Bow (Removable)

The bow is not sewn permanently.

  1. Place the bow on the front/side of the headband.
  2. Slide the center knot strap around the headband, securing bow in place.
  3. This allows:
    • repositioning
    • full removal
    • easy washing of the band
    • switching bows

This matches the attachment style from the photo.

🎉 Finishing Touches

✨ Fluff loops for maximum plushiness
✨ Adjust strap to sit centered and snug
✨ Ensure bow faces forward and stands proudly

Your cozy crochet bow headband is now complete—soft, squishy, oversized, and beautifully shaped with fully removable bow loops. Perfect for winter photos, holiday outfits, and gifting! ❄️💖
